Taking pride of place on the Chatsworth Estate, The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley is packed to the rafters with 18th century charm. Staying true to its rich past, this loveable village inn is one of the Peak District’s favourite pubs with rooms.

Bare stone walls, wooden floors and roaring log burners will melt your heart and warm your toes after a brisk walk in the Derbyshire countryside. And, of course, this cosy pub wouldn’t be complete without hearty, homecooked food and cask ales on tap. Dig into maple glazed belly of pork, a succulent burger dripping with melted cheese or good old fish and chips, all cooked to perfection.

We highly recommend staying for Sunday lunch if you visit at the weekend. Plates are piled high with traditional and locally reared meats, the freshest of vegetables and crispy Yorkshire puddings. We can’t think of a more perfect way to spend a weekend than among the beautiful countryside, with drinks by the fire, fabulous company and a good serving of comfort food.

If you can’t bear to leave The Devonshire Arms, there are 13 country-style bedrooms available that will give you the option of having that extra glass of your favourite tipple. Each of the rooms has the comfiest of beds to flop into, complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities. There are also dog friendly rooms available on request.

The local area

Fringed on all sides by acre upon acre of pristine countryside in the Peak District and the Chatsworth Estate, The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley is in the most enviable location. There are walks and cycle trails in abundance with a dreamy view lurking around every turn. But if the outdoors isn’t your thing or the weather’s having a bad day, there are still plenty of things to do in the local area. It would be a shame to stay at the Devonshire Arms at Pilsley without visiting Chatsworth House and Gardens, where you’ll be wowed by magnificent artwork and the romantic gardens with their sculptures, water features and maze. Why not take a short drive to one of the nearby towns of Bakewell or Buxton and uncover the interesting history and pretty scenery, or you could always spend and hour or two wandering around the shops, stopping off at one of the pavement cafes along the way.
