We all love those characterful little pubs with rooms – the kind you find in a sleepy village where you can dine on home-cooked food by the fire. Well, The Bell Inn at Walberswick is just that.

This 600 year old inn has more charm than you can shake a stick at, with its cosy nooks and crannies, obligatory log fire and flagstone floor. Isn’t that what we all crave when we’re in need of a break, especially in the winter months?

But don’t worry if it’s a summer escape you’re looking for, The Bell Inn Walberswick is just as enticing whatever the season. In summer, the Barn Café opens its doors onto the pub gardens and serves up a selection of sandwiches, teas and coffee, and freshly baked cakes.

With a reputation for being one of the best gastropubs in Suffolk, The Bell Inn Walberswick has a heavenly menu that changes with the seasons. If you’re sure you can resist the hearty, classic favourites such as creamy fish pie or steak and ale pie, there’s always a choice of snacks and lighter plates to nibble on – all nicely washed down with one of the Adnams brewed beers, spirits or wines.

What’s more, you can slope off to one of the six country style bedrooms at The Bell Inn, Walberswick, (children and dog in tow if you wish) to sleep off the day’s indulgences.

The local area

The pretty village of Walberswick is just a stroll from the beach on the Suffolk Heritage Coastline. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is renowned for its marshes, beaches and abundant wildlife. The River Blythe Estuary is a wonderful nature reserve comprising 1000 acres of unspoilt natural beauty that’s home to deer, otters and countless species of birds. If you don’t want to spend your time hiding from the kids in the sand dunes or crabbing at the harbour, there are some beautiful places close by that you can explore. The village itself has an array of tea rooms (perfect for our much-loved pastime of people watching), restaurants, art galleries and gift shops. But if you prefer to stretch your legs and go on a bit of an adventure, Southwold is within walking distance, or you can reach it by a more leisurely trip on the ferry.
