The local area

Located in Dedham on the Essex-Suffolk border, Milsoms brasserie with rooms is the perfect place to escape for a weekend. Head to the area that beloved landscape painter, John Constable, called home, and you'll discover it very much unchanged from the days he created some of his most famous paintings. You only have to visit nearby Flatford, where he took inspiration for his most famous landscape - The Hay Wain - to feel like you're stepping into a masterpiece. And Dedham itself is just about as pretty as a village gets, featuring Georgian facades, half-timbered buildings and Constable's magnificent Grammar School, founded by Elizabeth I. You can also hop on over to the lovely Munnings Art Museum, housed in the scenic Castle House. Milsoms hotel is perfectly located for exploring the glorious countryside, but if you do want to venture out, the historic town of Colchester is also a short drive away.
