Gastro Pubs with Rooms

It wasn’t long ago that a pub was a place you’d go for a drink – and maybe the odd pickled onion or Scotch egg. That was until they went all sophisticated on us. As those same pubs began to serve seriously good food, create imaginative dishes, and use locally-sourced ingredients – some even reaching Michelin Star status – the rise of gastro pubs with rooms was underway.

When pubs started offering rooms too, our bags were packed before you could say ‘Cheers!’ Not only could you now enjoy a mouthwatering meal in an inspired setting, you could follow it up with a stay in a stylish, cosy room. What’s not to love?

AA Pubs

As the gastro pubs with rooms have evolved, we’ve seen the humble country pub transformed into quirky boutique escapes, romantic hideaways and family friendly lodgings with hotel-style comforts, and AA pubs. Think of a typical Cotswold pub in a picture-perfect setting; exposed beams, a cosy armchair by a roaring log fire and chic rooms to relax in style. Follow that up with a country walk around quintessential English countryside and a hearty supper created with locally-sourced ingredients – maybe foraged from the woods that afternoon – and you’ve got the perfect foodie break. Or what about Gloucestershire? You could be settling down to a delicious Sunday lunch in a farmhouse-style pub with a local cider. Although you’re probably just as likely to find a carefully thought-through selection of craft beers and a gin cocktail or two…

With food taking centre stage, gastro pubs are really pushing the boundaries. Aside from heavenly pies and pints; expect fresh seafood suppers, slow-cooked game and exciting vegetarian dishes – all primed for some serious insta-bragging. And don’t forget the most important meal of the day – locally made sausages, free range eggs and fresh sourdough makes breakfast just as enticing.

Wherever you choose to lay your head – whether it’s a gastro pub with rooms in the midst of breathtaking countryside, close to a river for a spot of fishing or near cycling paths for a memorable family ride out, you can be sure of an intimate, laid-back atmosphere in comfort and style.
